SPIRITUAL FORMATION (Sunday Mornings)
As a community of faith, it is our responsibility to provide education so we may each feel equipped to grow and serve as Christian disciples. Education happens each Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:45.
Babies and Toddlers meet in Rm 152 in the Christian Education annex in the newly renovated Infant Toddler Center.
- Elementary-aged children meet in Rm 154. They are studying material called BIG WAVE DISCOVERY – Big Questions and Big Answers about God
FIRST CHURCH PRESCHOOL
The Preschool at First Christian Church is an early education program offered for children age 6 weeks thru 5 yrs old, with After-School Care for elementary age children. The program has offered a positive Christian-based Preschool experience for young children since 1997.
Recognized for excellence in program content and teaching method, the Preschool strives to maintain the highest quality early childhood learning experience available in the Temple area.
New additions to First Church Preschool
Infant and Toddler Care is now available. The newly renovated Nursery area is an inviting home-like setting for babies age 6 weeks and up. Our philosophy is to provide responsive, loving care working closely with parents and families to help their children begin life in a healthy, positive atmosphere. Limited enrollment available at this time; call the Preschool office for details and to set up a personal tour.
Features of the Preschool include
“Young Angels” Class is for children who are 18 mos. old by Oct. 1. The full care program is offered from 7:00am–6:00pm Mon.–Fri. One caregiver per 5 children. 18-24 mos old children will spend their days learning, playing, singing, and eating hot lunches and nutritious snacks. Chapel time for the Young Angels is offered daily in the form of Puppet Ministry, Bible stories and other age appropriate mediums. This is a year-round program and these Young Angels will move into the “Two-School” program in the fall. As children turn 3, they move with their classmates into the Preschool classes based on their age each Sept. 1.
Our curriculum for children 6 weeks to 3 yrs old is based on a well respected, research based program called The Creative Curriculum. Age appropriate environments and activities are provided by our experienced and well trained staff. 4 yrs old and 5 yrs old will be provided our Pre-K curriculum from Frog Street Press. We are partnered with the Temple Independent School District in the Texas School Ready program, a comprehensive literacy based environment rich with hands-on learning opportunities in language, math, science and social skills. Our center is using a positive approach with regards to helping children learn self regulation skills and socially acceptable behavior with a program called Conscious Discipline. This research based program teaches adults how to work with children so that they feel safe, understood, and valued while working through the normal behavior challenges children experience.
We care about the needs of the children enrolled in the Extended Care program. We understand that nurturing, safe, and loving care is vital to children who spend any portion of their time in a child care setting. We partner with parents to provide individualized learning on all levels. Come and see for yourself the benefits of a Christian environment for your child. WORSHIP & WONDER
This Children’s Church worship program for age 4 – 3rd Grade meets during church time and is led by Tobi Bigelow and Rita Morrelli. Children experience the word of God through hearing and seeing Bible stories being told in a way they can grasp the meanings. Elements of worship such as prayer, song, offering and a light ‘Feast’ each Sunday help children prepare for their transition into regular church worship as they are ready. An adult Storyteller and Greeter escort the children from the Sanctuary at the beginning of the 10:00 a.m. service to the Worship & Wonder Sanctuary in the education wing. At the conclusion of church, parents pick up their children at the Worship & Wonder Sanctuary. Volunteer training for this new and exciting approach to Children’s Church is held on Wednesdays, 10:00am, in the Worship & Wonder Sanctuary (Rm 156 off the main Preschool hallway)
LIFE POINT GROUP – Boys & Girls K-5th Grade – Leader: Rita Morrelli
Wednesday afternoons, 4:30-5:30, Rm 203 (upstairs). Come for games, crafts, and learning more about God, how He relates to us, and how we can better relate to Him. This Spring the group is finishing their investigative year by learning more about the life of Jesus and the Twelve Disciples. Many Life Point children are achieving Senior Detective rank. The group will meet until the end of the school year. Come join in and bring-a-friend!
